Wild Sky Photo - nature photography by Paul Beebe

Art is created when imagination and execution bump into each other.

Whenever I head out into the wild - even be it for a half-an-hour walk in the back woods - I like to carry with me a few essential tools. Things such as a knife and matches or firesteel....and of course, my camera.

But one item that I consider just as essential - something that I insist on bringing with me everywhere I go - is my imagination. This is because I am an artist at heart.

So, although I strongly believe in the discipline of learning to use one’s tools with skill, I also believe that it is one’s creative imagination that breathes life into one’s work, transforming it from something that might have been mundane and unremarkable into (hopefully) something exquisite.

I make my home on the edge of the wilderness of Northwestern Ontario, and no matter the season, I find that I am surrounded by beauty and drama. Sometimes this may be on a grand scale, such as when I am out photographing a breathtaking display of the Aurora Borealis. At other times, such as when I am out capturing images of snowflakes, I must exercise quite a bit of patience and more keenly focus my attention, in my search for that special shot.

The natural world around us is overrun with cool things waiting to be - begging to be - discovered. Too often in our busy daily lives we fail to observe - and therefore fail to appreciate - the simple, unremarkable things that often possess an exquisite, but unnoticed beauty. How sad.

It is my desire to capture (sometimes from a different perspective) sights and scenes of things sometimes common and sometimes not-so-common from this world around me, mix them with a bit of imagination, and present them to you in a way that may stir your appreciation for this magnificent world around us.

To view some examples of my work go to my Photo Galleries page, where there are links to various categories of images. From time to time I will be adding more images and galleries. Or you can go directly to my Aurora Borealis, Snowflakes, Abstract, Impressionism, Landscapes, or Birds galleries.

I invite you to check back here often to see what’s new. In the meantime, I invite you to contact me via e-mail, phone, or regular mail if you have any questions about my work or to place an order for prints.

Upcoming Events

In my “other life” I am a custom knifemaker (beebeknives.com), and I attend various trade shows and other events around my region where I offer for sale both my custom knives as well as fine art prints of my nature photography. The next events at which I will have a booth are:

  • Artisans Northwest 41st Art & Fine Craft Show - at the Valhalla Inn in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada - November 12 - 13, 2016. Doors will be open to the public from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm Saturday, and 10:00 am to 4:00 pm Sunday. I look forward to seeing and getting to chat with you there!

  • Upsala Christmas Market - at the Upsala Community Hall in Upsala, Ontario, Canada - November 26, 2016. Doors will be open to the public from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. I hope you can make it!

  • December Dreams 2016 Exhibition & Sale of Fine Arts, Crafts, & Festive Treats - at the C.L.E. Coliseum Bldg. in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada - December 3 - 4, 2016. Doors open to the public from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Saturday and 11:00 am to 4:00 pm Sunday. This is my last scheduled show of the year, and this would be a good chance to find that special last minute gift item.

At each of these events I will have a nice variety of mounted & matted prints available as well as some gorgeous stretched canvas prints (and of course, a selection of my fine handmade knives!). I hope that you can make some time to come by to browse and chat if you are in the area that weekend. It will be worth it!
